Survived by four sons, John (Tracyleigh) of Pittsburgh, PA, Tim (Angela) of Chicago, IL, Patrick (Erika) of Lapeer, MI, and Rob (Alison) of Cincinnati, OH and 13 grandchildren. Survived also by his best friend and companion of the past 11 years, Judy Haun.

Ben was Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the University of Dayton where he taught for 40 years. He held memberships in the AAUP (American Association of University Professors), ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), UCS (Union of Concerned Scientists), and Alpha Sigma Nu (National Jesuit Honorary).

Ben was born in Belleville, IL in 1933, the youngest of 8 children. Only his oldest brother, Don, survives him. He eventually had 4 brothers-in-law, 6 sisters-in-law, and 41 nieces and nephews.

After graduating from St. Louis University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he came to WPAFB where he served for 5 years before becoming an instructor of Mathematics at the University of Dayton in 1960. Ben did graduate work in Mathematics at Ohio State University and Washington University in St. Louis. In 1978 he was made a Full Professor of Mathematics. In 1972 and again in 1978 he was named Professor of the Year.

Ben was especially proud that his wife, Julie, and all five of his sons were graduates of the University of Dayton and that two of his grandchildren are now attending. He wore an emblem connecting him to UD on almost everything he wore!

He was a prolific author of over 25 undergraduate and graduate mathematics textbooks, most of them coauthored with his good friend, Jerry Strange. These books were used in over 160 universities in this country and at other schools around the globe such as Oxford University in England. Three of the texts were translated into Spanish.

Ben was active in running competition, participating in five marathons and in bicycling; for years he biked to work and took part in long distance biking events. Later in life he was an avid volksporter, where he participated in over 1000 events. After retiring from teaching mathematics, he began a second "career" of 15 years moderating a variety of film courses with the UD Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

In 2006 he joined the NAIM group of Catholic widows and widowers of Dayton, where he met Judy Haun, his "late-life love", and many other friends.

Ben was a charter member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish where over the years he served as a cantor, usher, choir member, and on the Parish Council.

A Mass of celebration will be held at the Church of the Incarnation, 7415 Far Hills Ave, Centerville on Monday morning, December 18th at 11:00. Family will receive friends at 10:15 am. Patricia Lehmkuhl Ramos Dorfmueller

January 1, 1928- July 29, 2016

Patricia, 88 years young, passed peacefully at Otterbein Senior Home, Lebanon Ohio. Born in Granite City Ill., to Alvina Gertrude and Wesley Dee Lehmkuhl. She began her artistic career at the early age of six mastering oil paintings and wood carving by age of 12. She studied at St Louis School of Fine Arts at the young age of sixteen. In 1963 she enrolled in the Cleveland Institute of Art where she refined her many talents and studied design under John Paul Miller. She created over 500 greeting cards printed by Gibson Greeting Card Co, Sangamon Co, Charm Craft Co, and publishers in Europe. She worked as commercial advertisement illustrator for many years. Her knowledge was shared when she was a professor at Gebhart Ohio Graphics, Southern Ohio College and Vogue Fashion College for Woman where she taught History of Fashion for several years.

Patricia was one of the 75 Silhouette Artists that worked in the USA. She learned the art from her friend Henry Niles, Silhouette Artist from Michigan. She cut thousands of portraits in over 18 states including Alaska. She offered her services to do portraits for schools and always did silhouettes complimentary for the children who could not afford them.

She was a thoughtful kind person who always did things her way. Her creative mind recycled objects and made them useful in ways no one else could think of. She loved to dance, learning to tap dance at a young age like Shirley Temple and danced at her grandfather's tavern, Green Gables, in East St. Louis. Her parents were competitive dancers and she danced her whole childhood to big band music, listening live to Louie Armstrong and the Glen Miller Orchestra. She was also Miss Granite City in the 1940's!

She told stories of shopping in East St. Louis with her mother and hiding in doorways when the mobsters drove down the street. She met the tallest man (USA), Robert Pershing Wadlow, and sat on his lap as a little girl when he came to Granite City.

She was adventuresome, moving all four of her children to Mexico in the 60's to live a year seeing the county side. She was part of the Woman's Movement in the 1960's thinking outside of the box of society. She explored all religions and searched for answers that made sense to her. She lived life as full as she could as gracefully as she could. She saw the good in everyone. She was married 17 years, having her four children to Anton Dorfmueller Jr. who passed away 2015. She raised her four children in the village of Greenhills, Ohio from 1964-1983.

She is survived by her four children, Daniel Philip and Deborah Dorfmueller, Mark Anton and Nancy Dorfmueller, David Dee and Rebecca Dorfmueller, and Marguerite (Rita) Marie Dorfmueller and William Bishop. MILLER

Ruth Maxine (Nunery) -
passed peacefully from this life at her home in Miamisburg on September 10, 2016. Ruth was born in St. Marys, Ohio, on May 27, 1918 to the late Leo Louis Nunery and Mildred Marie (Mueller) Nunery. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of more than 60 years, Karl B. Miller, Jr. and is survived by their sons and families Jon B. (Sue) of Howell, Michigan; Paul S. (Sandi) of Miamisburg; and Michael L. (Lynn) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her two sisters, Louellen Kuhn and Margaret Eshbaugh and is survived by her brother, Richard Nunery of Ft. Myers, FL.

Ruth was a 1936 graduate of Miamisburg High School and was very proud that between she and Karl (Class of 1935), their families have been residents of Miamisburg since 1928 and over those years have supplied 5 generations of Miller family students to the Miamisburg school system, including two great grandchildren who are students today. As did most people who grew up in the depression era, she entered the work force immediately from graduation and continued through most of her family-raising years. Her last employments in Miamisburg included 18 years bookkeeping for the Clerk-Treasurer of the Board of Education and the school system's Building and Grounds Department. She was proud to have transitioned those financial ledgers of the school system from "long hand" to computer-maintained records. Ruth was a proud supporter of Miamisburg, giving of her time, talents and other gifts to Trinity Church and Miamisburg Historical Society, among others.

After retirement, Ruth and Karl spent winters in Ft. Myers, Florida and in 1997 moved there where they lived until Karl passed away in 2000. Ruth stayed in Ft. Myers, working for the Ft. Myers United Church of Christ until she returned to Miamisburg in 2007. Ruth and Karl made many friends in the Ft. Myers area over those years and thoroughly enjoyed their time in the warm climate.

Although always analytical and ready to thoughtfully and critically comment on current news events, Ruth was consistent in her praise, encouragement and mentoring to all people with whom she came into contact. An accomplished artist, she excelled at sewing, needlecraft and painting. Food and cooking were also a passion with her.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Church in Miamisburg at 1:30 p.m. on September 24, 2016. For those who wish to make a gift, in lieu of flowers, Ruth recommended that donations be made to the Trinity Church Choir.

Saron loved to look thru pictures that her beloved Don took showcasing their love and appreciation for this place we all call "HOME", she shared many memories and smiles with the stories that visitors and friends would share of their lives, how they came to be here or how they met Don and Saron and continued a friendship/acquaintance with them throughout the years. This last Christmas in Springboro was a wonderful time for her, she smiled thru the whole parade and loved watching the festival all weekend. Thanksgiving was also a wonderful day for her, she was surrounded by a lot of family and friends. She enjoyed the conversations as she batted her eyelashes and flirted with all of us, just as she did with Don McLaughlin. Cindy would like to thank everyone in the community for all the well wishes and the love that the community showed Saron through these last few months as we struggled to keep Saron in her home as she wished.
